A number of emails showed up in my inbox earlier today congratulating (me?) on Spain’s victory over Italy last night. Whether your consider it a victory or not (since they went to penalties) is not the point here: they won and broke the 88 year-old curse or something. The point is that Spain is headed to a match with Russia on Thursday (I think) for quarter finals. And more amusingly, people took the time to send me mail about it.

To those of you who wrote me: thanks, even as I literally had nothing to do with their victory. I can’t even claim to have watched the whole game. As commentators were elaborating on Spain’s well deserved victory (they did play well, or so I am told by people in the know), I have to admit that we started watching the game just as they rolled into overtime.
